READ TO THE FINAL FOUR

Program Goals:

  • Assist schools with their literacy efforts by leveraging the NCAA Team Works brand to create an exciting competition with incentives to promote literacy and higher education

  • Expand classroom and school libraries through donations

  • Expose children to NCAA athletics and create opportunities to attend collegiate events

  • Increase students’ daily reading minutes through competitions and prizes

Process:

  • With adult supervision, 2nd & 3rd-grade students will log their minutes read daily in school and at home via a reading log. Schools may use existing reading programs to track the minutes read.

  • Teachers will take an average (total minutes read/number of students in their classroom) at the end of every week and communicate those totals to the school’s point of contact who will turn over that information to the Local Organizing Committee program coordinators.

  • Schools will be ranked on a weekly basis on the average number of minutes read per school.

  • The Final Four schools from Orleans & Jefferson Parish school districts will be invited on a field trip to Tourney Town, presented by Capital One at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center where the overall winners will be announced. Tourney Town is a festival jam-packed with special appearances, autograph signings, interactive games, giveaways, basketball contests and more.
